Places and Gastronomy in Catalonia – dinner under the stars with Foresta

It is quite strange how sometimes you end up not knowing too much about beautiful places to visit close to home as mostly you are always busy organising vacations further away with the excuse that you can visit closer sites whenever you want. But then you never do…

As the pandemic is still not under control, this has been quite a strange year for us, just as for many others, I’m sure, and we still haven’t been able to go on vacation and this year we won’t be travelling too far away. But that just means we have more time on our hands now to explore places close to where we currently live in the area of Catalonia.

The wilderness of Garraf

Last weekend we had the pleasure to be able to book a seat to the “Under The Stars” dinner with the Foresta winery in the Garraf Massif. We have known the wines and the people behind it all for quite some time and we very much admire their work.

The vines are all worked and treated in an organic way, no chemicals are used and very little intervention is done also in the winery. It is a great example of producers who want to stick to traditional local varieties that have long been forgotten or overlooked and have been excluded from the local DO (Denomination of Origin).

But when you can sell your wine without the necessity to be part of a certain DO, when top class restaurants search for it, you can pretty much know that the quality will speak for itself.

The road to the breathtaking mountain top with the special “tasting room” is a 10-min safari ride away. If you are a fan of vintage trucks or have dreamed of a wild getaway, you will love this!

At the right moment of the day, jut before sunset, this will be the spectacular site you will see on the top of the hill.

On one side you will be able to see the more industrialized and busy Penedes and on the other you will see the hilltops, the deep forest and pure nature of the Garraf natural park.

Not far from the spot where the car will leave you, you will take a short stroll though some bushes to reach the spectacular view and the tasting table.

Enjoy the view, enjoy the wines and the stories of the Garraf Massif and the winery. Do try the Xarel.lo fermented in barrels, it surprises with its full buttery mouthfeel and their marvellous Metodo Ancestral. Let Joan from Foresta guide you through this experience.

Still, if you can’t get out of your house up to the winery, be sure to check these wines out at their online store, so you can organise a nice tasting at home by yourself or in the company of friends!
